The Best Skunk Odor
Remedy
|
The best skunk odor remedy is really
the one that works. However, from personal experience, I can tell you how to get rid of that skunk smell and other
odors as well. Plus, you can do it with common materials and save a lot of money.
Skunks might be cute when they are babies... All baby animals are cute, even skunks. However, once you or your pet is sprayed by an adult skunk,
you won't think it is so cute anymore!
It takes a lot of work, but you can get rid of that skunk odor (and most
other odors as well) by using some everyday supplies. There are many folk recipes around, but I know this one works
because I used it! In the process, I also ended up with a very clean house.

Odors

If you have a bucket, water, vinegar,
baking soda, a sponge and some rags, you have everything you need, except the elbow grease, of
course.
What to do when a skunk sprays in your
house
One summer night I had an experience that caused me to search high and
low for a skunk odor remedy. Eventually I found one and wish to share this with you.
There were quite a few options, but what actually worked is as
follows.
It was hot out and my teenage son was sleeping on the
sofa. During the night a fat, waddling visitor pushed open the screen slider and began chomping
away on the cat food in the bowl near the door.
My son awoke, due to the noise, and hollered at the cat
to eat more politely. When the slobbering, chomping feast continued, he got up to see what was
going on. To his horror, there was a black and white, low to the ground skunk in our dining
room! He instinctively shouted out and the startled skunk did what skunks naturally do: he
passed a huge cloud of noxious gas!
The entire house was filled with this awful odor, which
was so strong that nobody could stay indoors! Obviously, something had to be done! This was the
beginning of my search for a skunk odor remedy.

Vinegar, baking soda and water
I asked my neighbors and colleagues, searched online and visited the
local hardware store. Seems everybody had a remedy, so I tried some of them.
Maybe I was hoping for a skunk odor remedy that
would be like a magic wand that required no work. That just did not happen, and, in fact, I had
to do a lot of scrubbing.
The thing that worked was a combination of baking soda
and vinegar. Once I got over the longing for a solution that required no work, I found that by
combining the soda and vinegar and elbow grease, the skunk odor quickly vanished. So did a lot
of other stains and fingerprints!
By keeping a bucket of vinegar mixed with warm water and
a bowl of straight baking soda I found the most amazing cleaning solution. As an unexpected
benefit, the cleanser was also very inexpensive.
I took a sponge, dipped it in the vinegar solution, wrung
it out so it was still quite damp, then dipped it in the bowl of baking soda. Next, I scrubbed
every square inch of the house. This was an experience that revealed many things, including
just how many fingerprints there were on the walls!
In the end, this simple skunk odor remedy solved my
problem completely. It also showed me how simple ingredients can do as well as or better than
expensive cleaners.
